ISLAMABAD: The Federal Ombudsman, Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, has summoned the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, SSP Traffic, and Director General Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on September 4 over unsatisfactory reporting on vehicle environmental clearance at D-Chowk.
Registrar Muhammad Saqib Khan has issued notices to the concerned officials after the Ombudsman expressed displeasure at their failure to submit a satisfactory report during the last hearing on August 29.
The Ombudsman had earlier taken notice of long queues for vehicle clearance in the Red Zone and had summoned the Secretary Transport Authority, Commissioner, DC Islamabad, and DG EPA. However, officials failed to provide answers to the Ombudsman’s questionnaire, leading to the new summons.
The questionnaire had sought explanations on why the Red Zone was chosen for vehicle clearance, whether awareness campaigns were run through print, electronic, or social media, and which vehicle models and years were being cleared. It also inquired if separate booths for women and senior citizens were established.
Due to lack of clear information and poor management, citizens were forced to wait in long queues, only to be told later that clearance stickers were being issued only for vehicles up to model year 2015.
