Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to set up an autonomous Climate Action Board to strengthen policy-making and practical measures against climate change. A draft law in this regard will soon be presented in the KP Assembly.
According to the draft, the board will operate with full independence and decision-making powers. It will comprise eight administrative secretaries along with four members from the private sector.
The board’s mandate includes preparing climate policies, coordinating with government departments, promoting research, and expanding cooperation with international organizations. It will also design a new climate policy framework, work on securing carbon credits, compile a greenhouse gas inventory, and promote a low-carbon economy in the province.
The legislation further proposes that the board must meet every four months to review progress on climate action policies and practical initiatives.
