Naqvi arrives in Dhaka to chair ACC annual huddle amid India’s absence

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Bangladesh on Wednesday to chair the council’s Annual General Meeting scheduled for July 24 in Dhaka.

Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s caretaker Interior Minister, was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam.

His arrival marks the commencement of a crucial round of discussions where the host nation and schedule for the upcoming Asia Cup are expected to be finalised.

According to sources within the ACC, a formal dinner will be hosted in Dhaka later tonight to honour the participants of the annual meeting.

Delegates from several member nations have already reached the Bangladeshi capital ahead of Wednesday’s session.

However, the absence of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) continues to cast a shadow over the proceedings. As of Tuesday evening, the Indian board had neither confirmed its physical attendance nor conveyed plans to participate via video link, despite being the designated host of the Asia Cup.

Indian media reports suggest that the BCCI has officially communicated its reluctance to attend the meeting unless it is shifted to a different location. Citing security and political concerns in Bangladesh, the BCCI has reportedly hinted at the possibility of pulling out of the session entirely. Additionally, it has postponed its bilateral cricket series in Bangladesh, which was originally scheduled for August.
