Dubai has marked a major milestone in urban mobility by successfully completing the first test flight of an air taxi developed by U.S.-based Joby Aviation.
The trial, conducted in partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), is part of the emirate’s broader strategy to introduce full-scale air taxi services by 2026.
Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the achievement on social platform X, describing it as a groundbreaking step that will “shorten distances, enhance quality of life in Dubai, and reshape sustainable, eco-friendly urban mobility.”
The Crown Prince emphasized that this project aligns with Dubai’s ambition to position itself as a global leader in innovation and smart transportation solutions. The air taxi initiative is expected to revolutionize travel within the city, reducing traffic congestion and offering a fast, environmentally friendly alternative to traditional transport.
The successful test flight reflects Dubai’s continued commitment to adopting cutting-edge technologies and building future-ready infrastructure.
