BEIJING (Internews): Chinese foreign minister and member of the political bureau of the CPC central committee Wang Yi held a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday, at the request of the Pakistani side.
During the call, Ishaq Dar provided an update on the ongoing conflict between Pakistan and India, expressing Islamabad’s willingness to reach a ceasefire while reaffirming the country’s resolve to remain vigilant in protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity and will respond to any actions that violate its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He extended Pakistan’s gratitude to China for its mediation efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire and pledged to maintain close communication with Beijing and the broader international community.
Wang Yi expressed China’s deep concern over the escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, both of which are China’s neighbors. He conveyed sympathies over civilian casualties reported on the Pakistani side and reiterated China’s support for Pakistan’s efforts to safeguard its national sovereignty and dignity.
“China believes Pakistan will respond to the situation with calm and make decisions in accordance with its fundamental and long-term interests,” Wang said. He emphasized China’s hope for an early ceasefire and stressed that once achieved, it must be upheld by both sides to prevent a resurgence of hostilities. Such a step, he added, would not only serve the interests of both nations but also contribute to regional peace and stability in line with the expectations of the international community. China is willing to continue playing a positive role in this regard.
Wang also acknowledged Pakistan’s frontline role in the global fight against terrorism, commending its significant contributions to counter-terrorism efforts.
He expressed confidence that Pakistan will ensure the security of Chinese personnel and institutions in the country amid the current tensions.
