A powerful explosion rocked Wana Bazaar in Lower South Waziristan on Monday, claiming the lives of at least seven people and leaving 13 others injured.

The blast, which was heard from a considerable distance, occurred during peak hours, sparking panic among the local population.

According to police officials, the explosion was a targeted attack on Saif-ur-Rehman, a former member of the local peace committee.

While Rehman is reported to have been the primary target, the blast also caused significant casualties among bystanders.

Following the explosion, police and rescue teams swiftly arrived at the scene, where they found several victims in critical condition.

The bodies of the deceased and the injured were immediately transported to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana, where medical teams have been working to provide urgent care to those affected. However, as of yet, the identities of the deceased have not been confirmed.

Security forces have cordoned off the area, initiating an investigation into the incident. Police sources stated that the security measures are intended to prevent any further attacks and to gather evidence for a thorough inquiry.

The blast has raised serious concerns regarding the continuing instability in the region, particularly in areas like South Waziristan, where targeted violence has become increasingly frequent.
