Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has commenced a second trial aimed at blocking unregistered and illegal Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) in the country.
The two-day exercise involves simulating the closure of unregistered VPNs using advanced firewall technology.
Sources within the PTA reveal that this trial is part of a broader initiative to regulate VPN usage and ensure compliance with government policies.
The authority has set a deadline of November 30 for users to register their VPNs. Beginning December 1, unregistered VPNs will face an official ban.
According to PTA officials, more than 25,000 VPNs have been registered so far, reflecting a growing awareness among users about the regulatory requirements.
The second trial follows an earlier test conducted by PTA a few days ago, which also focused on identifying and blocking unauthorized VPN connections.
VPNs are often used by businesses and individuals to secure internet connections and bypass restrictions. However, authorities argue that unregulated VPNs can pose risks to national security and hinder digital surveillance efforts.
