Senate Committee on Interior meeting chaired by Senator Faisal Salim, a proposed amendment aimed at increasing punishments for rape offenses was introduced.

Senator Mohsin Aziz presented the bill, emphasizing the need for harsher penalties in such cases.

“The punishment for rape is currently too lenient; severe consequences must be enforced,” said Senator Aziz, advocating for life imprisonment for convicted rapists.

Senator Samina Zehri also voiced support for reform, calling for an overhaul of outdated laws.

“We are still following 50-year-old laws, which need to be changed,” she stated.

Senator Aziz further proposed a minimum sentence of 25 years for rape cases, underscoring the committee’s determination to implement stricter measures to address such crimes effectively.
