Amritsar, Delhi, Chandigarh smog push Lahore to world’s most polluted cities

1 min read

Lahore has claimed the unfortunate title of one of the most polluted cities in the world, primarily due to toxic smog drifting in from Delhi, Chandigarh, and Amritsar.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) has skyrocketed, reaching alarming levels that pose serious health risks to residents.

Johar Town and surrounding areas have recorded the highest pollution levels, attributed to toxic air drifting from Delhi and Chandigarh and amplified by winds from Amritsar.

Punjab government has announced plans for artificial rain to combat the worsening air quality.

Environmentalists warn that the situation has become hazardous, and medical experts advise citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, particularly those with respiratory and heart conditions.

Environmental experts attribute this severe air quality deterioration to the accumulation of pollutants blown in from neighboring regions, exacerbated by local conditions. Authorities are now implementing measures, including plans for artificial rain, in an effort to alleviate the dire situation and protect public health.
