ISLAMABAD:Pakistan has decided to develop a Polio vaccine locally with the cooperation of United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

Coordinator to PM on Health Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath has also appealed to UNICEF for cooperation in the development of the Polio vaccine in Pakistan.

UNICEF Supply Chain Division Director met coordinator to PM on health and both exchanged views on health sector and polio vaccine procurement.

UNICEF pledged for uninterrupted supply of Polio vaccine and cooperation in preparation of Polio vaccine at local level.

The local development of vaccines would meet the demand of vaccines in Pakistan as well as reduce the strain on foreign exchange reserves, Dr. Bharath said.

He stated that the government was committed to boost exports as per the PM’s vision.

Recently, Pakistan has witnessed the surge in Polio cases. Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only countries in the world having Polio virus as of 2024.
