3 min read

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a new national initiative to promote organ donation, introducing a special logo for voluntary organ donors on National Identity Cards.

“In recognition of their life-saving commitment, individuals who register as organ donors will have an exclusive logo printed on their National Identity Cards,” the prime minister said in a statement for International Identity Day.

He described organ donation as a powerful act of compassion that can offer a second chance at life to those in need. “I urge all citizens to join this initiative and contribute to building a life-saving community,” he added.

He called for collective efforts to create a more inclusive society where the rights of every individual are recognized and respected. The prime minister urged citizens, civil society, and government institutions to work together in raising awareness and educating people about identity-related issues.

Additionally, he highlighted the need to address gaps in the national registration and biometric systems and encouraged the integration of digital solutions to streamline services and improve identity verification accuracy.

My government is committed to promoting transparency and accountability, building trust among citizens, and encouraging greater civic participation to strengthen the democratic fabric of our nation,” he affirmed.

In a separate message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s strong commitment to protecting the ozone layer in honor of World Ozone Day. He stressed the importance of global cooperation in tackling ozone depletion and recognized Pakistan’s contributions to international efforts.

The prime minister expressed concern over the harm caused by human activity, which led to the ozone layer’s depletion and the formation of the ozone hole, posing serious risks to life on Earth. However, he commended the success of global initiatives such as the United Nations Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol, which have aided in the recovery of the ozone layer.

Pakistan has been an active participant in these UN agreements,” PM Shehbaz noted, highlighting that the country ratified the Montreal Protocol in 1992 and has made significant progress in phasing out ozone-depleting substances (ODS).
