Pakistan has extended an invitation to India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, for an official visit, according to sources.

The invitation has been sent to the Indian Minister to attend the SCO Trade Ministers’ Meeting, sources said.

An invitation letter was delivered to the Indian Commerce Minister, Piyush Goyal, through diplomatic channels, sources confirmed.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Trade Ministers’ Meeting is scheduled to be held in Islamabad on September 12.

Ministers of trade and economic affairs from SCO member countries are expected to participate in the meeting. During the meeting, there will be consultations on trade and economic cooperation among the member countries, sources reported.

The proposals discussed during the ministerial meeting will be presented at the SCO government summit for approval, sources added.

The SCO government summit is scheduled to take place on October 15 and 16 in Islamabad.

Last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended invitations to all heads of governments of the SCO member states, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following the SCO protocol. However, so far there has been no confirmation or denial from India regarding the invitation.

Indian media claimed Modi will likely skip the Shanghai Corporation Summit (SCO) in Islamabad.
