KP govt moves PHC for judicial inquiry of May 9 riots

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has approached the Peshawar High Court (PHC) filed a petition for a judicial inquiry into the May 9 incidents requesting the Chief Justice of the PHC to form a judicial commission.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Law Minister Aftab Alam has said that he has sent a letter to the Chief Justice of PHC for a judicial commission.

Aftab Alam said that the CJ will announce the names for the Peshawar High Court (PHC) Commission and the head of the Judicial Commission will be the judge of the PHC.

It should be remembered that on June 27, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government approved the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 incidents.

The approval of the commission was given in the provincial cabinet meeting.

According to the decision of the provincial cabinet, the commission will be entrusted with the responsibility of conducting a full investigation of May 9, after the investigation, all the characters involved in the events of May 9, 2023 will be exposed.

On May 9, 2023, after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan from the premises of Islamabad High Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case, a nationwide protest was held by the PTI, during which military, civil and private installations were set on fire and severe damage occurred to public and private properties.
