The recent approval of so-called law by US president Joe Biden regarding Xizang have once again exposed the dual standards of American crumbled diplomatic norms towards international foreign relations and anti-China smear campaigning in the American administration circles.
The signing of law by US president Biden comes at a time when American society is grappled by gun violence, political infightings, high inflations, surrenders from the global war zones, trembling healthcare system, wage inequality, rising student debts and White-non-White problems have become a new name card of America.
The State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China have released a report on human rights violations in the United States in 2023.
Gun violence spills over, while the government’s control policies are ineffective. There were at least 654 mass shootings in the United States in 2023. Approximately 43,000 people were killed by gun violence in 2023, averaging 117 deaths per day.
Driven by partisan polarization and interest groups, a growing number of state governments have taken the initiative to push legislation to expand residents’ rights to own and bear arms. In 2023, at least 27 states did not require a license to carry a handgun.
Ethnic minorities in the United States face systematic racial discrimination, as the chronic disease of racism persists. African American are three times more likely to be killed by police than whites, and 4.5 times more likely to be incarcerated. Nearly three quarters of Chinese Americans had experienced racial discrimination in the past year, and 55 percent feared that hate crimes or harassment would jeopardize their personal safety.
Native Americans have lived in a constant state of cultural oppression, with their religious beliefs and traditional practices ruthlessly stifled. Racist ideology is spreading virulently in the United States and spilling across borders.
The United States has long pursued hegemonism, practiced power politics, and created humanitarian crises. In the theaters of war where the United States conducted overseas “counter-terrorism” operations following the 9/11 attacks, the total death toll ranges from at least 4.5 to 4.7 million people.
The U.S. military violates the sovereignty and human rights of other nations via “proxy forces” programs and continued providing arms to conflict zones, resulting in massive civilian casualties.
The notorious Guantanamo prison which severely violates human rights is still in operation. Prolonged and indiscriminate use of unilateral sanctions has caused serious humanitarian consequences. The United States has used more sanctions than any other country in the world.
By ignoring these issues that have plagued American society, American administration is overstepping by interfering in China’s internal matters that is the violation of the principle of bilateral relationship between two sides.
Spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry has said that China firmly opposes the Xizang-related bill signed into law by the US side and has protested to the US side.
The spokesperson said the act violated the US government’s long-held position and commitments and the basic norms governing international relations, grossly interfered in China’s domestic affairs, undermined China’s interests, and sent a severely wrong signal to the “Tibet independence” forces. China firmly opposes it and has protested to the US side.
The spokesperson said Xizang has been part of China since ancient times. Xizang affairs are China’s internal affairs which brook no interference by any external forces. Xizang today enjoys social stability and harmony, with sound economic performance and people’s well-being well protected. Xizang is making fresh progress in effectively running its society, maintaining social stability, and achieving high-quality development. No one and no force should ever attempt to destabilize Xizang to contain and suppress China. Such attempts will never succeed.
In November 2023, The State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China released a white paper on CPC Policies on the Governance of Xizang in the New Era: Approach and Achievements which narrated that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held in 2012, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has practiced a people-centred approach to development. With a strategic vision to rejuvenate the Chinese nation, and to ensure that the Xizang Autonomous Region will realize moderate prosperity and modernization together with the rest of the country, the CPC Central Committee has attached great importance to the development of Xizang and focused its attention on the people in the region.
The CPC Central Committee held the sixth and seventh national meetings on Xizang in 2015 and 2020 respectively, at which it established the guiding principles, overall requirements and priority tasks, pointing the way to lasting stability and quality development, meeting the people’s aspirations for a better life, and realizing socialist modernization in the region.
Following the CPC’s guidelines for governing Xizang in the new era, and with nationwide support, officials and the peoples of the various ethnic groups in the autonomous region have worked together and achieved all-round progress and historic success in various undertakings.
The main driver of the CPC’s endeavors is the people’s aspirations for a better life. Xizang has followed the people-centered approach to development and applied the new development philosophy of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development in full. It is addressing imbalanced and insufficient development, optimizing the industrial structure, and boosting growth. Xizang had long been plagued by poverty, but absolute poverty has now been eradicated. The region has now achieved all objectives for development set in the 13th Five-year Plan (2016-2020) as scheduled, and the economy is robust.
Following the achievements of China’s central government for attaining the development and prosperity for Xizang is the lesson for American administration to focus on improving the deteriorating human rights situation of American society and let others live with their national and domestic conditions.
