The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is in advanced discussions with several former star cricketers for mentorship roles.

Sources privy to the matter said that the PCB has contacted Shoaib Akhtar, Shoaib Malik, Waqar Younis, Moin Khan, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mushtaq Ahmed, Younis Khan, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Misbah-ul-Haq as part of its initiative to enhance the national team’s performance.

The final decision will be made by the PCB chairman in consultation with the board of governors, sources added.

Former cricketers and Babar Azam’s fate

While addressing reporters in Lahore, PCB Chairman Syed Mohsin Naqvi stated, “There is, however, no decision taken so far related to Babar Azam.” He further clarified that he is consulting only those former cricketers who are committed to the improvement of Pakistan cricket.

“I’m only speaking to those former cricketers who are interested in the betterment of Pakistan cricket,” Naqvi added.

The PCB chairman did not disclose the identities of the former cricketers involved in this decision-making process. However, he mentioned that one former cricketer has already submitted a detailed report highlighting the shortcomings of Pakistan cricket.
