Pakistan and the Afghan interim government have re-established contact in Doha, Qatar. The Pakistani and Afghan delegations met at the residence of the Pakistani ambassador in Qatar, where they participated in discussions facilitated by the United Nations during the Afghan conference.
As per reports, Pakistan’s Special Representative on Afghanistan, Ambassador Asif Durrani met with the spokesperson of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Zabihullah Mujahid, along with a delegation at a dinner hosted by Pakistan’s ambassador in Doha Muhemmed Aejaz. Both parties discussed Doha-III conference, as well as bilateral and regional issues.
The ambassador highlighted the shared cultural and historical ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan, emphasizing the mutual desire for peace that exists on both sides.
“The commonalities between Pakistan and Afghanistan are numerous, and there is a strong desire for peace from both nations,” the ambassador stated.
As per sources, the meeting discussed easing tensions following Pakistan’s announcement of a new operation against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which security officials claim operates from the Afghan soil. Both sides expressed the hope for improved relations and regional peace.
The Afghan delegation expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its support of Afghanistan’s position in the conference, acknowledging the collaborative efforts to address regional stability and peace.
This meeting in Doha is seen as a constructive step towards strengthening diplomatic relations and fostering cooperation between Pakistan and the Afghan Interim Government. The positive interactions and mutual expressions of goodwill during the meeting have raised hopes for continued dialogue and collaboration in the future.
