T20 World Cup: Imad Wasim may be sent back after Pakistan-India clash

4 min read

As cricket fans eagerly await the highly anticipated clash between Pakistan and India, concerns have emerged within the Pakistani camp regarding the fitness of all-rounder Imad Wasim.

Sources close to the team have revealed that Imad Wasim has not fully recovered from his health issues, prompting the team management to consider sending him back after the match against India on Sunday.

The sources say that the team management is keen on adding Imad to the match against India.

In light of Imad Wasim’s uncertain fitness status, discussions have begun regarding potential replacements. One name that has surfaced is that of spinner Mehran Mumtaz. Sources suggest that the team management is seriously considering adding Mehran Mumtaz to the squad in place of Imad Wasim for the upcoming matches.

According to insiders, the captain and team management have already communicated with Mehran Mumtaz, instructing him to be prepared for a possible call-up to the national team. Mehran has been diligently training at the National Cricket Academy for the past two days, indicating his readiness to step up if needed.

After the humiliating defeat by the USA at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Thursday, Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam acknowledged the team’s shortcomings during their first match of the T20 World Cup 2024.

The match culminated in a thrilling Super Over, with the USA prevailing by a margin of five runs. During the Super Over, Pakistan’s Muhammad Amir took the first wicket, and the United States recorded a score of 18-1. The Green Shirts were able to achieve only a score of 13-1.

The 29-year-old skipper expressed his thoughts in a post-match presentation, saying, “We failed to capitalise in the first six overs. Back-to-back wickets always put you on the back foot, as a batter you need to step up and build partnerships.”

Earlier, it was announced that the national cricket team all-rounder, Imad Wasim, was out of the first match of the ongoing T20 World Cup taking place in the USA. Team captain Babar Azam confirmed that Imad Wasim was suffering from a side strain, due to which he would not be able to play the first match. He added that he was hopeful for the rest of the matches.
