Kylian Mbappe expressed his pride in leaving Paris Saint-Germain with his “head held high” after their 2-1 victory over Lyon in the French Cup final.
While he remained tight-lipped about his next destination, he hinted at an imminent announcement regarding his future.
“To finish with a trophy in a final, there is no better way. It feels really good,” Mbappe said following the triumph in Lille, marking the end of his contract with PSG. Despite heavy speculation about a move to Real Madrid, neither party has confirmed the transfer yet.
Mbappe emphasised the importance of concluding his PSG journey on a high note. “All I wanted was to end things well with my club, with a trophy. I think there is a time for everything, and I will announce my future club in good time,” he stated, suggesting an update in a few days.
Reflecting on his final match, where he did not score but still left a mark with a record 256 goals in 308 appearances for PSG, Mbappe admitted to feeling nostalgic. “With the protocol before a Cup final, you have a lot of waiting around. All the memories start to come back,” the 25-year-old said.
During his seven-year tenure with PSG, Mbappe secured six Ligue 1 titles, four French Cups, and two League Cups. He also played a pivotal role in their 2020 Champions League final run. “There are only good memories, and now I can go out with my head held high, with a trophy as well, so I will only remember the positives,” he added.
Luis Enrique’s team celebrated a domestic double this season, rebounding from their Champions League semi-final loss to Borussia Dortmund. Ousmane Dembele and Fabian Ruiz scored the decisive goals in the Cup final, cementing PSG’s dominance in French football.
