Nagelsmann to lead German national team through 2026

2 min read

The German Football Association (DFB) announced on Friday that Julian Nagelsmann, coach of the German national team, has committed to an extension, ensuring his leadership until at least the 2026 World Cup.

Nagelsmann expressed his heartfelt commitment, stating, “It is a great honour to coach the national team.”

The extension comes ahead of the 2024 European championships, which Germany is set to host in June and July.

Nagelsmann, buoyed by recent victories against France and the Netherlands, aims for success in the upcoming home Euros, fueled by the fans’ enthusiasm.

DFB’s national team director, Rudi Voeller, emphasised the conviction in retaining Nagelsmann beyond the current tournament.

Bernd Neuendorf, DFB president, hailed Nagelsmann’s decision as a “strong signal” by extending his tenure to the 2026 World Cup.

Speculations regarding Nagelsmann’s return to club football, particularly with Bayern Munich, have been dispelled.

Despite Bayern’s struggles after Nagelsmann, the coach remains committed to leading Germany.

Germany’s journey to Euro 2024 follows their disappointing exit from the 2022 World Cup, prompting the departure of former coach Hansi Flick.

Under Nagelsmann’s guidance, Germany’s form has improved, instilling optimism as they head into the championships.
