As the country prepares to celebrate Eidul Fitr in the next few days, the Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory predicting rain with thunder in several places across the upper regions, including Islamabad, on the first day of the religious festival.
Dr Babar from the Meteorological Department has stated that a new series of rains is likely to commence across the country from Friday onwards.
According to the latest forecasts he has provided, rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in the upper regions, including Islamabad, on Wednesday. However, the weather is anticipated to be dry and slightly hot on Thursday, providing temporary relief before the onset of heavy rainfall.
Dr Babar has cautioned that a new wave of heavy rain is expected to enter the country from Friday evening, continuing until Monday. This prolonged period of rainfall may lead to clearing clouds in most areas, but it also poses risks of flooding and landslides in certain regions.
The Meteorological Department’s advisory specifically highlights the risk of heavy rain and thunder from April 13 to 15, particularly in areas such as Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, and a fear of flooding near the Kabul River. Additionally, there is a heightened risk of landslides in Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan due to the anticipated heavy rainfall.
In response to these forecasts, all institutions have been instructed to remain on high alert to mitigate potential risks and ensure the safety of residents in affected areas. Authorities are urged to take necessary precautions and measures to handle any emergencies arising from adverse weather conditions.
