ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain said that the country would focus more on boosting agricultural productivity and growth considering the challenges posed by climate change.
Agriculture is the backbone of the country’s economy and all resources will be utilized for its development while introducing climate-smart agricultural strategies to improve the agricultural sector, the minister said during a meeting here on Thursday.
Pakistan has been confronting a number of challenges including climate change, water scarcity, and lack of access to modern technology and markets, Hussain said, expressing the government’s resolve to address all issues to realize the full potential of the agriculture sector.
He said that the sector has been providing livelihood to millions of people in the country and playing a key role in food security for the population. Being one of the most vulnerable countries to climatic disasters, Pakistan needed to formulate better policies to make progress towards climate resilience and sustainable development, he added.
“The development and prosperity of Pakistan depends on the development of agriculture and an integrated strategy is being devised for its improvement,” the minister said.
