Renowned diplomat and former Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Shahryar M. Khan, has passed away at the age of 89 in Lahore. His family has confirmed his demise, marking the end of a remarkable journey that saw him play pivotal roles in both cricket and diplomacy.
Born on March 29, 1934, in Lucknow, India, Shahryar Khan received his early education there before pursuing higher studies in England. Following the partition of India, he migrated to Pakistan and settled in Karachi, where he began a distinguished career in diplomacy.
Aside from serving as Pakistan’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Shahryar Khan left an unforgettable mark on the cricketing landscape, having managed the national team and chaired the PCB twice.
His contributions to cricket diplomacy between Pakistan and India, underscored by his familial ties to former Indian captain Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, are widely recognized.
On Saturday morning, Shahryar Khan’s health suddenly deteriorated, leading to his passing. Survived by his widow and four children.p
Plans for Shahryar Khan’s funeral prayers in Karachi will be announced in due course, as his body is transported via air ambulance to its final resting place.
