James Anderson creates history by becoming the first pacer to get 700 wickets in Test cricket. He is the third cricketer to reach this milestone when he dismissed Kuldeep Yadav on the third day of the fifth Test against India in Dharamsala.
He is behind spinners Muttiah Muralitharan (800 wickets) of Sri Lanka and the late Shane Warne (708 wickets) of Australia.
Anderson was delighted as his teammates gathered around him when overnight batsman Yadav edged a length ball outside off. The crowd gave a standing ovation when the veteran raised the ball.
Legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar praised Anderson for his “stellar achievement” on X, formerly Twitter.
“A fast bowler playing for 22 years and performing so consistently to be able to take 700 wickets would have sounded like fiction until Anderson actually made it happen …” Tendulkar wrote.
The game’s fans have been amazed by Anderson’s extraordinary longevity and skill set over the years. James entered into the series 10 away from the mark and started the final match on 698 wickets.
