The Foreign Office has stated that Pakistan wants to establish relations with all its neighbours, including India, on the basis of equality, respect, and dignity.

Commenting on the likely foreign policy, spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said during her weekly media briefing that Pakistan would welcome the mediation of any friendly country to resolve the India-Pakistan dispute or the Kashmir issue.

Confirming that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his congratulations to his Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif on assuming office via a social media message, she reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to engage in dialogue and resolve disputes through diplomatic means.

Baloch also commented that since a federal cabinet had yet to be formed, any decision on the country’s foreign policy would be taken after a team of ministers had been sworn in. “Relations with the neighbours will be determined by the new cabinet or the foreign minister,” she added.

The Foreign Office spokesperson also commented that Indian premier Modi was scheduled to visit India-held Kashmir today. She underscored Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue, emphasizing that tourism in the region cannot flourish until Kashmiris are granted the right to self-determination. Additionally, she also reiterated concerns regarding the ongoing oppression of innocent Kashmiris by Indian forces.

Addressing another pressing issue, the Foreign Office spokesperson provided insights into the case of arrested Afghan citizens allegedly planning to attack Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Baloch stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had not yet received any information regarding the incident.

However, she assured that once the details are shared, Pakistan would engage with the Afghan government to address the matter appropriately.
