Microsoft brings AI-driven background removal and picture editing to Windows

1 min read

Microsoft has released a new feature for its Windows Photos app called ‘Generative Erase’, which lets users use AI to selectively remove items from pictures

Microsoft is now on pace with Google and Samsung, two companies with comparable AI-powered picture editing capabilities.

In contrast to other platforms, Microsoft’s solution will support Arm64 devices and be backported to Windows 10, in addition to being available for Windows 11.

Future Windows user updates will include the improvements, which include background removal, which are now being tested with Windows Insiders.

Microsoft’s statement does not, however, make it clear if AI-edited images would have any unique watermarks or metadata.

The IT companies are competing to launch modern and creative AI products in an effort to draw clients and expand their operations.
