Following talks facilitated by caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) agreed to form a coalition government at the federal and Punjab provincial levels.
PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif met PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former president Asif Ali Zardari, conveying his father Nawaz Sharif’s invitation for co-governance. Discussions covered power-sharing and key appointments, with final decisions to be reached in subsequent meetings. Both parties stressed their commitment to political and economic stability.
This alliance comes after inconclusive election results, with neither PML-N nor any other party securing a clear majority in parliament. Nawaz Sharif declared PML-N the “largest party,” calling for national unity and inviting other parties to join their bid to “take Pakistan out of difficulties.”
Shehbaz Sharif has been tasked with reaching out to other potential coalition partners, including JUI-F and MQM, for broader consensus.
