Skincare 101: common mistakes you’re making in your skincare routine

4 min read

Maintaining a healthy skincare routine is of utmost importance if you want to keep your skin in good condition. Although there are numerous products in the market that promise you flawless skin, there are several mistakes we often make that actually worsen our skincare routine.

Over-washing

Washing your face too frequently or using harsh cleansers can strip away natural oils and disrupt your skin’s moisture barrier. We suggest cleansing your face twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.

Inadequate makeup removal

Failing to remove makeup thoroughly can clog your sensitive pores and lead to breakouts. It is essential to use a gentle makeup remover or cleanser to effectively eliminate all traces of makeup before going to bed.

Skipping sunscreen

Neglecting sunscreen regularly disrupts your skincare routine. Many people consider sunscreen as a secondary step, but in reality, it plays a crucial role in protecting your skin from harmful UV rays and preventing premature aging. We recommend using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and applying it to all exposed areas of your skin.

Picking at blemishes

Popping or picking at pimples is a definite no-no! It can worsen inflammation, increase the risk of scarring, and introduce bacteria to your skin. It is best to resist the temptation and allow blemishes to heal naturally. If needed, seek professional advice for safe extraction.

Excessive product usage

Overloading your skin with multiple skincare products simultaneously can overwhelm it and potentially cause irritation or adverse reactions. It is important to find a skincare routine that suits your skin type and stick to a few essential products.

Neglecting moisturisation

Failing to moisturise can leave your skin dry, flaky, and prone to fine lines. Regardless of your skin type, it is crucial to use a moisturizer that meets your skin’s needs to maintain proper hydration.

Excessive exfoliation

Over-exfoliating can damage your skin’s protective barrier and result in redness, sensitivity, and dryness. Limit exfoliation to 1-2 times per week and choose gentle exfoliants suitable for your skin type.

Ignoring a balanced diet and lifestyle

Skincare is not solely dependent on external treatments. We recommend adopting a healthy lifestyle, which includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep. These factors greatly contribute to your overall skin health.
