ECP to take strict action against absenteeism during polling staff training

In response to alarming instances of absenteeism during the training of polling staff, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday resolved to take decisive measures against those found neglecting their duties.

In this regard, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja has issued stringent directives to all Chief Secretaries and Provincial Election Commissioners to enforce the attendance of polling staff during training sessions.

A spokesperson for the Election Commission emphasised the critical nature of the training process and expressed concerns over the absenteeism observed.

Morever, he revealed that the decision to implement strict disciplinary actions against absent staff members aims to uphold the integrity and efficiency of the electoral process.

“The Chief Election Commissioner has unequivocally instructed all Chief Secretaries and Provincial Election Commissioners to ensure the attendance of polling staff during their training. Any deviation from this directive will be met with immediate and severe consequences,” stated the Election Commission spokesperson.

The Election Commission has taken a zero-tolerance approach to negligence and absenteeism during the training period. The spokesperson stressed that employees found absent without valid reasons will face immediate suspension and subsequent disciplinary actions.

“It is imperative that the polling staff is well-equipped and thoroughly trained to handle the responsibilities entrusted to them during the electoral process. Any lapse in attendance during training undermines the integrity of our democratic process, and we will not tolerate such negligence,” the spokesperson added.
