MORIGAON, India: After a gap of nearly nine years, people could finally watch traditional buffalo fights on the scene during Bhogali Bihu, a festival marking the end of the winter harvesting season, at Ahatguri village of Morigaon district, Assam state, India.

Given that buffalo fights are part of Bhogali Bihu, the state government has passed Standard Operating Procedures to ensure the safety of the animals and preserve the tradition.
