GM U.S. sales up 14 pct in 2023

CHICAGO: General Motors Co. said Wednesday it sold 2.6 million vehicles in the United States in 2023, up 14 percent from 2022 sales and in line with industry estimates.

This marked the U.S. automaker’s best annual performance since 2019, when it sold 2.9 million vehicles in the United States.

GM reported sales increase in every brand in 2023. To be specific, GMC sales rose 9 percent, Chevrolet 13 percent, Cadillac 9 percent and Buick 61 percent.

GM sold 75,883 electric vehicles in 2023, up 93 percent from 2022’s EV sales.

The Detroit-based automaker grew its market share by 0.3 percentage points in 2023. GM all-electric vehicle sales in 2023 accounted for 2.9 percent of its overall sales.

GM said it would focus on increasing production of its electric vehicles in 2024.

“GM has tremendous momentum. We grew our market share in 2023, maintaining strong pricing and low incentives,” said Marissa West, GM senior vice president and president of North America. “In 2024, we expect industry sales to remain strong.”

As for other automakers, Toyota Motor Corp. U.S. sales went up 6.6 percent year on year in 2023; Hyundai Motor Co. sales rose 11 percent; and Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. sales soared 23 percent, The Detroit News reported Wednesday.
