Hajj 2024 application deadline nears as only 28,762 registered so far

2 min read

Only 28,782 applications have applied so far for Hajj 2024, as the deadline for submitting applications under the official Hajj scheme approaches.

The low turnout of applicants prompted authorities to explore alternative options to encourage more participation.

As per data, only 24,446 applications were collected under the official regular scheme on Saturday. The sponsorship scheme, aimed at facilitating pilgrims, received a modest 174 applications on the last day.

Ministry of Religious Affairs is considering extending the submission period by 7 to 10 days to boost the number of applications and ensure wider participation in the Hajj pilgrimage.

Reports suggest that a 5-year ban on performing Hajj again might be lifted.

The Ministry is also exploring the possibility of further relaxing permissions for women to perform Hajj without a male guardian (Muharram). If implemented, this could mark a positive shift in the inclusivity of the Hajj policy.

Any changes in the Hajj policy will undergo scrutiny and approval from the federal cabinet, ensuring that decisions are made with careful consideration of the welfare and convenience of prospective pilgrims.
