Federal Minister for Finance Dr Shamshad Akhtar on Tuesday reviewed the federal portfolio of projects funded by the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank.

In her opening remarks at a meeting convened at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the minister underscored the critical role those projects were playing in Pakistan’s socioeconomic development, offering access to job markets and fostering economic mobility to lift people out of poverty.

Outlining the purpose of the portfolio review, she said it would address implementation bottlenecks and help meet disbursement targets for the current fiscal year.

She provided insights into the background and purpose of the meeting, shedding light on both successful and problematic projects.

She highlighted initiatives such as the restoration of infrastructure post-2022 floods, border crossing point improvements, digital payments accessibility, housing finance, tax base broadening, adaptive social protection, and higher education sector development.

Expressing concern over project delays, the minister pledged to bring those issues to the attention of the Prime Minister’s Office and provincial governments for seeking their support in expediting the completion of projects.

She also appealed to donors for their expertise and technical assistance to ensure timely implementation of projects for Pakistan’s socioeconomic development.
