Travis Head’s wife face online abuse from Indians after World Cup win

3 min read

In a shocking turn of events following Australia’s triumphant win over India in the ODI World Cup 2023, Australian cricketer Travis Head and his wife have become the target of online abuse and threats from some Indian extremists.

The abuse escalated to horrifying levels, with individuals even issuing rape threats against Head’s 1-year-old daughter.

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad witnessed a historic match on Sunday, November 19, as Travis Head’s remarkable century propelled Australia to their sixth ODI World Cup title.

However, the celebration quickly turned sour for Head as he found himself under a barrage of hate on social media platforms.

The turning point occurred in the 34th over of Australia’s pursuit, when Head aggressively played a length ball from Kuldeep Yadav.

His outstanding performance, which included a scintillating 137 runs off 120 balls, became a target for some disgruntled Indian fans who resorted to vile comments on Head’s Instagram posts.

Despite Australia’s loss of three wickets for 47 runs in their pursuit of the 241-run target set by the hosts, Head’s resilient innings dominated the game and secured a convincing victory for the ‘Men in Yellow.’ Unfortunately, this success was marred by the reprehensible behavior of a section of Indian cricket enthusiasts who couldn’t handle the defeat.

The online abuse not only targeted Travis Head but also extended to his wife, with some comments reaching the appalling extent of threatening harm to his 1-year-old daughter.

Such incidents highlight the dark side of sports fandom, where a few individuals resort to unacceptable behavior, unable to cope with the emotions of defeat.
