Misbah-ul-Haq defends Babar, calls for team improvement ahead of World Cup

Former Pakistan cricket captain Misbah-ul-Haq Monday came to the defense of current captain Babar Azam amidst growing criticism of the national team’s performance in the Asia Cup.

Misbah-ul-Haq, who also serves as the PCB Technical Committee Chairman, spoke candidly to the media, addressing concerns about Pakistan’s recent struggles on the cricket field.

In a press conference held earlier today, Misbah acknowledged that mistakes had been made during the Asia Cup, but he remained optimistic about the team’s potential in the upcoming World Cup.

He stated, “While our performance in the Asia Cup was disappointing, it’s essential to understand that cricket is a dynamic sport, and setbacks are a part of the journey. The team’s confidence has been affected, but we must now focus on improving our performance”.

Misbah-ul-Haq emphasized that the 228-run defeat was not solely the responsibility of captain Babar Azam but a collective failure of the entire team.

“We have overcome difficult situations before, and I believe this team has the potential to rise to the occasion,” he remarked.

Addressing calls for major changes in the team, Misbah-ul-Haq cautioned against hasty decisions, noting that the current situation didn’t allow for extensive alterations.

He warned, “Making too many changes at this point could disrupt the team’s chemistry and morale, which would be counterproductive. We need to work with the players we have and help them improve.”
