In a major setback for the Pakistan cricket team, fast bowler Naseem Shah has been ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury.

The excitement surrounding the Asia Cup reached a fever pitch as the crucial Superfour stage match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka approached. However, a somber atmosphere loomed over the Pakistani camp as they received devastating news just hours before the all-important clash.

The news came on the eve of a crucial Super Four stage match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, where the second finalist for the Asia Cup will be decided.

Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi, during a media talk described Shah’s untimely departure as a “major setback” to Pakistan’s chances in the tournament.

Expressing his concerns, Shahid Afridi commented, “Naseem Shah’s exit from the event is a big blow to the team. His pace and skill would have been invaluable in this critical match”.

“Losing Naseem Shah for this event is a substantial setback for the team. His pace and skill set would have been priceless in this crucial match,” he remarked.

As Pakistan reevaluates its strategy, Former leg-spinner and cricket coach Mushtaq Ahmed suggested, “Zaman Khan should be utilized as a strike bowler in Naseem’s absence. His ability to generate pace can be a game-changer”.

Former cricketer and coach Muhammad Yusuf also weighed in on the situation, saying, “Zaman Khan has pace and potential. He’s young and hungry. I believe he won’t disappoint, and this is a chance for him to prove his worth on the international stage.”

Adding to the pressure, Pakistan’s poor run rate following a significant defeat to India has heightened the importance of this match.

The team’s net run rate has taken a hit, making it crucial for them to secure a victory in the upcoming match against Sri Lanka. If the match is inconclusive due to rain, it could spell disaster for Pakistan’s hopes, as Sri Lanka would advance.
