A senior officer in the Delhi government’s Woman and Child Development Department has been accused of raping his friend’s 16-year-old daughter for several months and impregnating her.
The girl is a Class 12 student at a school in North Delhi. The Delhi Police have booked the accused and his wife on charges of rape and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after the girl said she was raped by the officer several times between 2020 and 2021, and that his wife terminated her pregnancy by giving her abortion pills.
As per the police, the girl’s family and the accused met around three years ago. When the girl lost her father in 2020, the accused allegedly offered to take her to his home and care for her. Her mother agreed as they were friends, said the police. The accused lives with his wife and son in North Delhi.
A senior police officer said, “She was raped for months and got pregnant sometime in 2021. When the accused found out, he told his wife. The wife then ordered abortion pills and terminated the child’s pregnancy. As per the girl’s family, she fell sick later and was taken back by her mother. The mother later took her to doctors and specialists who found that the child was abused for months by the officer and his family.”
Sources said the girl’s mother found out about the rape after almost two years. She then called the police and child welfare authorities.
“We recorded the girl’s statement where she detailed multiple incidents of rape and abuse. The wife is also named an accused in the case for aiding the officer and terminating the pregnancy. The girl is undergoing treatment at a hospital. She is also undergoing counselling,” added the officer.
The matter is being investigated. The girl’s statement is yet to be recorded in front of a magistrate. The police said they will record her statement before the court soon and then question the officer.
The officer and his wife have been booked under IPC sections 376 2f (being a guardian, commits rape on woman), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 323 (causing hurt),313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent), 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and sections of POCSO Act.
