Asia Album: Figs harvest in full swing in Afghanistan’s Kandahar

1 min read

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan: Kandahar figs, which are considered one of the essential economic fruits in Afghanistan, take on the shape of a teardrop and have a purple or green peel and hundreds of tiny seeds inside. The fruit’s pink flesh gives a subtle sweetness.

The area of the fig gardens reaches 15,000 hectares, which are mainly cultivated in Shah Valikot, Khakrez, Ghorak, Nish, and Mianshin areas of Kandahar. Local farmers in the garden pick the ripe fruits and stuffed the figs full into the basket, zippily embracing a bumper harvest season.
