Former CJP Jilani to be awarded Human Rights Award in USA

ABA press release said: “His ruling not only resolves the thorny question of a potential conflict between Islamic and democratic ideals but also provides a way forward for a country that is committed to upholding Islamic values but can still provide a voice for its marginalized communities.”

Reflecting on the question of the increasingly radicalized youth in the country, the honorable judge said: “The world [today] A globalized interdependent space. It is evolving with the values we must live by including democracy, freedom, rule of law, human rights and truth.

“Having the idea of Ijtihad Keeping in mind, we can share the concept of ‘enlightened Islam’,” he said, adding that we can balance economic and social interaction.

Honorary Chair of the World Justice Project, the former Supreme Court judge has received several accolades for her efforts to ensure justice and provision of basic human rights for all.

  • ABA ‘2008 Rule of Law Award’ on behalf of judges of Pakistan who have shown courage in upholding the ‘Rule of Law’ in the country;
  • The Hague Convention appointed him Co-Chair of the Working Party on Mediation in International Family Law;
  • Justice for All’ (theme songa sung at the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court of Pakistan) written by Justice Jilani has been announced as Pakistan’s judicial anthem;
  • He was appointed as a member of the Hague International Judicial Network;

• Distinguished Formanite Award by Forman Christian College University, Lahore in 2011.
