
BEIJING: Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.26 percent to 3,236.48 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.61 percent higher at 11,095.44 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 920.8 billion yuan (about 128.73 billion U.S. dollars), up from 911.9 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to media and entertainment and wine-making led the gains, while those in the electric power and motorcycle sectors suffered some of the biggest losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.85 percent to close at 2,237.52 points on Thursday.
