BAMAKO: Russia’s stability is essential for world peace and security, Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop said on Twitter on Friday.
“This Friday, June 30, 2023, I had a telephone conversation with my Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov,” Diop said, adding that he thanked Russia for “its constant support” for Mali within the United Nations Security Council.
According to the Malian transitional authorities, the West African country is engaged in “a state-to-state partnership with the Russian Federation.”
Since 2012, Mali has been plagued by terrorist attacks and violence perpetrated by militia and rebel groups, resulting in hundreds of deaths among civilians and military forces and thousands of displaced persons.
