Experts say that eating moderate amounts of meat on Eid does not cause any problems for healthy people, but diabetics whose kidneys are not working properly should eat less meat to avoid complications.
According to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shoaib Shafi, Senior Vice President, College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, diabetic patients can eat moderate amount of meat food as their kidneys are functioning properly like healthy people as they are medically advised not to eat meat food.
He thinks that eating meat regularly for three days or a whole week of Eid-ul-Azha can cause problems even for healthy people.
Chronic hepatitis B and C patients are advised to eat only small amounts of meat. Chronic hepatitis B and C patients with a history of ascites, abdominal fluid retention, or vomiting of blood may only eat up to 40 grams of meat in a 24-hour period.
He explains that patients with chronic hepatitis B and C may faint or vomit blood or have fits after eating large amounts of meat. If a patient with hepatitis B and C is found to be slurring after eating meat, he should be taken to a health care facility immediately.
Experts say that patients suffering from hepatitis B or C but with normal liver and kidney function should eat moderate amounts of meat, but they should also avoid regular consumption of meat on and after Eid.
People, especially those with complaints of peptic or duodenal ulcers, should also limit their consumption of meat. Many health experts say that eating too much meat in one sitting can cause health problems for everyone, including healthy people, and should be avoided.
