Pakistan may witness ‘heatwave-like’ conditions this week

1 min read

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday said that heatwave-like conditions are likely to develop in most parts of the country this week.

According to the Meteorological Office, due to the high pressure in the upper atmosphere, the daytime temperature of the country may gradually increase from June 20 to 24.

Daytime temperatures are expected to be 4°C to 6°C above normal over Upper and Central Punjab, Islamabad, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, temperatures in parts of Sindh, South Punjab and Balochistan may be 2°C to 4°C above normal.

The Meteorological Department has also said that isolated (pocket) rain with occasional dust/thunderstorm is likely over the plains and hilly areas of the country during this period.

Demand for electricity and water will increase in the coming days due to rise in temperature, PMD said.

It said farmers are advised to water crops accordingly, while the general public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight.
