Expressing his desire to play in all three formats of the game, Pakistan’s young wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Haris cited the examples of India’s Rishabh Pant and former Australia cricketer Adam Gilchrist.
While talking to Dr. Haris worldly newsSaid he is trying to be more patient as a batter at the crease. “I need to be more patient as a batter and that’s something I’ve been working on in training camp,” Harris said.
“I can hit fours and sixes but I need to add singles and doubles to my game. I am working on improving my ground shots,” he added. Harris says he wants to play in all formats and not just be a T20 specialist.
“I want to play for Pakistan in all formats. Just because I play fast doesn’t mean I’m only fit for T20 cricket. Players like Rishabh Pant play at the same pace in all formats of the game. Even Adam Gilchrist used to do the same in the past,” he said.
He praised Mohammad Rizwan while talking about the competition for the wicketkeeper’s role in the Pakistan team.
Rizwan is the first choice wicketkeeper for the Pakistan team. There is always stiff competition for the wicketkeeper’s role in a team, which is why I am trying to become a better fielder so that I can fully play as a batsman in the team,” he said.
“I learned a lot about the game from Rizwan. Whenever I fail to perform well, Rizwan usually supports me. He gave me many opportunities when we played for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he added.
The right-hander also spoke about the positive impact on his batting after facing Pakistan’s pacers in the nets. “Pakistan’s fast bowlers are the best in the world which helps us a lot during training. During the T20 World Cup, the performance of our bowlers made it easy for me to deal with the pacers of the opposition,” he said.
Harris has played five ODIs and nine T20Is so far in his short career.
