LAHORE: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has reportedly backed the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) hybrid plan to host the Asia Cup in September.
Pakistan will host four to six Asia Cup matches as per the hybrid model given to the ACC by PCB Management Committee Chairman Najam Shetty. Simultaneously, India will play their matches at a neutral venue that will also host other matches.
According to sources, the Asian company has accepted the hybrid model offered by Najam Shetty in principle, without any additional requirements.
According to this hybrid model, Pakistan will host four to six matches, while the other matches will be played at neutral venues such as Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates.
“However, all the details will be finalized in the ACC meeting to be held soon,” said inside sources.
Pakistan’s participation in the 2019 Asia Cup and Men’s ODI World Cup is under threat as the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has refused to tour Pakistan for the said competition citing political concerns.
The BCCI maintained its stance of not touring Pakistan for the Asia Cup, while the PCB insisted that if they did not, Pakistan would be barred from the World Cup in India in October-November.
