
RAWALPINDI: Former Pakistan head coach Saqlain Mushtaq has revealed that former pacer Shoaib Akhtar still has some money that he took from him to buy his clothes.
Saqlain spoke about his relationship with Shoaib while speaking on a TV programme. He said the former speedster was nicknamed “Shoaby” and “Shoaib the actor” when the host showed him pictures of Shoaib.
Shoaib is my friend since childhood even before playing cricket. We used to go to each other’s houses and eat. Dal Roti together,” said Saqlain.
The former head coach, with a laugh, recalled the time when Shoaib borrowed Rs 250 from him, saying he had not returned it yet. “There was a team that had come to Karachi for a match and around 25 people were sharing a two-room house in Laluxhe. Shoaib and I were in the same room.
“At that time we did not get daily allowance and used to go home with Rs 1,500 to 2,000. I had only Rs 250 left of this amount and Shoaib had no money. After we watched a movie, Shoaib thought of buying new pants. And a shirts and bought them from the remaining amount,” Saqlain added.
He also said that the former pacer is yet to return the amount claiming his money back. Saqlain also said that Shaaib was very fond of shopping, adding that other players in the team were also afraid that he might ask them to lend money.
