LAHORE: Pakistan batsman Shan Masood is all set to embark on a new journey as the captain of the Yorkshire county club at the Vitality Blast.
After two successful years with Derbyshire, Masud will now lead Yorkshire in their first match against Warwickshire in Birmingham.
Expressing his excitement on Twitter, the left-handed batsman shared his excitement about representing Yorkshire in the highly anticipated T20 tournament.
He expressed his delight at joining such a prestigious club and looks forward to a strong season together starting with Vitality Blast.
Ahead of Yorkshire’s second Eid Milan celebration, which marks the end of Ramadan, Masood stressed the importance of the club’s efforts to deal with the damage caused by Azim Rafiq’s racism allegations and the aftermath.
He believed that rectifying the situation should be done on a comprehensive scale rather than focusing on specific actions.
Masood told The Yorkshire Post, “You should never be pressured to do anything. In particular, I think it should be complete.”
“When you talk about Yorkshire, it should represent the whole county, that’s what it should do and that’s what I’ve seen so far.
“That’s what I’ve always done as a person; I’ve been very fortunate to visit a large part of the world and a major part of my own country, where there’s a lot of diversity.
“So knowing different people, knowing what culture they come from, knowing what background they come from, respecting everyone’s ideas and ideologies and just trying to live happily under one roof – I think that’s what the club is doing and of course that’s what I do. Long time no see.”
The 33-year-old has expressed his love for the challenge and was inspired by three former Pakistan captains from Yorkshire to decide on a move away from Derbyshire.
“I like a challenge,” said he, who cited the club’s three former Pakistan captains Inzamam-ul-Haq, Younis Khan and Sarfraz Ahmed as inspirations in their decision to move from Derbyshire.
