
MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army on Tuesday claimed to have killed 60 al-Shabaab militants during a special operation in the Mudug region of central Somalia, a military official confirmed.
Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, the Somali National Army chief, told Somali National News Agency that the troops arrested some militants and recovered weapons during the operation.
“Our forces and the local forces got an intelligence report about the militants’ intention and movement in the area and jointly made the operation. They destroyed a big truck loaded with explosives and captured a Toyota Hilux car during the operation,” Rageh said.
The al-Shabaab militants are yet to comment on the latest operation by Somali troops in central Somalia.
