Ex-health minister Yasmin Rashid summoned for PIC corruption case

LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment, Punjab has summoned former provincial minister Dr Yasmin Rashid on the issue of billions of rupees’ corruption in the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), Lahore.

Sources say Dr Yasmin Rashid is also accused of accepting bribes in parking, canteen and other contracts. They said the ACE also summoned PIC executive director, Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Muhammad Tahsin, AMS Purchase Dr Shakeel and AMS Store Pharmacy Dr Masood Nawaz.

Sources further said they were accused of causing a loss of more than Rs1 billion to the government treasury by buying stents at high prices.

In the current financial year, it is alleged that the suspects also violated the PPRA rules, took a huge commission in the purchase of stents and also bought the equipment used in the bypass operation at high prices.

Apart from this, the administration is also accused of stealing goods worth millions of rupees from the PIC store, including cardiac batteries.
