China has expressed strong opposition to Japan’s recent actions related to Taiwan, warning that Tokyo will bear the consequences of any provocations, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Monday.
Spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to questions about Cho Jung-tai, chief of Taiwan’s executive body, visiting Japan. Guo said Cho’s activities in Japan were aimed at promoting “Taiwan independence” and described them as “despicable.”
“Japan will pay a price for its indulgence in provocations and reckless actions, and all the consequences arising from them must be borne by Japan,” Guo added, emphasizing that China remains “highly vigilant” on the Taiwan issue.
The foreign ministry’s statement reflects Beijing’s ongoing stance against any foreign support for Taiwan’s independence and reinforces China’s position that such actions violate its core territorial claims.
