A Brazilian football match made history as a record 23 red cards were shown following a massive brawl during the Campeonato Mineiro final between traditional rivals Cruzeiro and Atlético Mineiro.

The incident occurred in the final moments of Sunday’s match, with Atlético Mineiro leading 1-0. Tensions escalated when Atlético goalkeeper Everson pushed Cruzeiro midfielder Krystan to the ground after a collision while chasing the ball.

A viral video captured the moment of confrontation, after which players from both teams clashed in a physical fight on the pitch. Security staff had to intervene to separate the players as the chaos intensified.

Referee action was swift and strict: 23 players received red cards, setting a new record for the most red cards issued in a single match in Brazilian football history.

After the match, Atlético Mineiro player Hulk expressed regret, saying he had never witnessed such violent behavior in a football match and apologized for the incident.

Cruzeiro coach Tite thanked fans for their support following the victory, emphasizing respect and appreciation for the club’s supporters despite the controversial ending.
